Felix Houphouet-Boigny,founding father of the Ivory Coast nation was born in 1905 in YAMOUSSOUKRO, in the heart of Baoulé country.
This city became the nation’s capital in 1983.  Across a green expanse, the sacred crocodile Lake offers a surprising performance at meal time each evening.
The famous Our Lady of Peace Basilica is a meeting place for pilgrims.  It has a dome similar to that of Saint Peter’s in Rome with 10 levels of stained glass windows with 4,000 shades of color, and rests on a 130-hectare site.  A night, when lit up, the church is a splendid sight.
The religious patrimony of the city also includes a mosque.
